Music
Fantasia
Dr. Birnbaum's doctoral composition for his PhD in Musical Arts, submitted to Columbia University in 1982, Fantasia is designed to "appear as if thirteen players are improvising on certain materials." A detailed explanation of the work is provided in his essay accompanying the score (pdf).
Dr. Birnbaum's student Sylvie Yannello has entered the score into MuseScore notation software and generated a MIDI rendering of the composition.
A Little Blasphemy
An original composition appearing 2005's Ab Ovo, "A Little Blasphemy" exemplifies Dr. Birnbaum's blues-inflected ragtime style. Dr. Birnbaum's student Sylvie Yannello has transcribed the studio recording.

Dr. Birnbaum had a YouTube channel with several dozen videos including clips from his tenure on The Joe Franklin Show. This channel is no longer maintained, but Sylvie has archived all the content.
